Marcel Breuer, 1970
Armstrong Rubber Company Headquarters
New Haven, CT
We loved seeing (and staying in) this icon of modernist architecture by Marcel Breuer, completed four years after the Whitney Museum, restored and converted into a net-zero hotel.
Views from the room across I-95 to the Harbor are stunning and peaceful.
Inspiration
Always take the stairs – whenever possible!
Notes
The quality of construction is evidenced in the fine grain of the wood formwork visibly imprinted into the concrete walls inside the beautifully restored fire stairs.
Breuer’s drawings for the building, including construction sketches, may be viewed at Syracuse University Libraries’ digital archive.
